Frequently asked questions & spa policies:

Where are you located?
DSS is a private studio in a residential neighborhood. Directions are provided once your appointment has been scheduled. The studio address will be listed at the bottom of your appointment confirmation email. It's not far from the Madras McDonald's and Safeway.

Is the spa inside a house?
No. DSS is located at a home residence but the spa itself is an independent studio separate from the main house. DSS has obtained the necessary business permit from Jefferson County as well as a facility license from the Oregon Health Licensing Office in order to operate at this location.

What type of massage is provided?
DSS provides therapeutic massage in compliance with the Oregon Board of Massage and facial services in compliance with the Oregon Health Licensing Office.

Do you offer pregnancy massage?
DSS can offer prenatal massage for women in their second or third trimesters that aren't classified as having a high risk pregnancy. We do have a pregnancy cushion that will allow you to safely lay face down during your session. However, if the cushion isn't comfortable for you, your therapist won't proceed with the massage.

What precautions are you taking against covid-19?
DSS is taking safeguards above and beyond state guidelines to keep the studio as clean as possible. A HEPA filter air purifier cleans the air during open hours, a UV-C sterilizing light is operated for 30 minutes each business morning and hospital grade EPA approved disinfectants are used to clean the face cradle between sessions. Your therapist will wear a mask at your request.

Do you bill insurance?
DSS only bills insurance for massages after a motor vehicle accident if you have a current prescription for massage from your doctor. The prescription must include the words "medically necessary therapeutic massage", the region or regions of treatment with diagnosis codes, and the frequency and duration of the massages (i.e. Dx: Cervical sprain S13.4XXA and thoracic sprain S23.3XXA resulting from MVA, Rx: medically necessary therapeutic massage 2x/wk for 6 weeks).

Do you accept HSA or FSA?
If you want to use your HSA or FSA card to pay for your services, it is your responsibility to have a current prescription for massage from your doctor in your personal records in case HSA or FSA requests to verify medical necessity. If they demand repayment or refuse to pay for services for any reason, it is your individual financial responsibility.

What do I wear?
Your comfort is the priority. Please wear comfortable clothing. Makeup and jewelry aren't necessary. Once you arrive for your appointment you'll be given privacy to undress and lay down on the table under the sheets. You'll remain fully draped under the sheets during your service except for the area being treated.

How early should I arrive for my appointment?
New clients - please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled time to fill out an intake form so that your service can be customized to your needs.
Returning clients - please arrive 5 minutes before your scheduled time.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Please let DSS know as soon as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. A minimum of 48 hours notice of cancellation is requested. If you are sick, you are not eligible for services. Please let DSS know as soon as you feel sick so that your appointment can be rescheduled and there is enough time to fill that open service slot. No shows will result in a denial of future appointments. Future appointments may be negotiated on a case-by-case basis for long-standing clients. No shows on gift certificate services will result in forfeiture of the gift certificate.

What if I'm late for my appointment?
Unfortunately your appointment may not be extended if you are late. Please be on time to receive your full session.

What methods of payment are accepted?

DSS takes cash, debit cards, credit cards, apple pay, android pay and venmo.

Should I leave gratuity?
Gratuity is appreciated and up to each individual's satisfaction level. 10%-20% is the industry standard.

Can I bring a friend?
Due to the cozy size and private atmosphere, seating is limited, so DSS asks that only people receiving services come to the studio.

Are there age restrictions?
Minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Minors must be old enough to remain still during the session.

How can I purchase a gift certificate?
Gift certificates can be purchased here. Gift certificates are not redeemable for cash.

Personal conduct policies:
  • Wait until your therapist has left the room to undress.

  • Don't remove draping since you're draped according to state laws.

  • Absolutely no sexual references, sexual conduct or sexual harassment will be tolerated. The session will immediately end, the service will be charged in full and a future appointment will be denied.

  • If you've been diagnosed with a serious illness, please don't schedule an appointment until you've been specifically cleared by your medical provider for massage.

  • If you're sick with a contagious condition, you are not eligible for services. If you're not sure if you should reschedule or not, please call the studio and ask as soon as possible before arriving for your appointment.

  • If you're uncomfortable at any time during your service, please tell your therapist immediately so adjustments can be made to make you comfortable again.
